I ran across this guitar riff contest about a week before it was over, and so I decided to jump on the opportunity! I wrote this groove over the backing track provided for the contest at 110 BPM (there were 3 drum tracks at different tempos to choose from). It was fun and great to play the guitar for the channel again. :)
Recorded in Drop F# tuning. I used the transpose feature on a couple of the lower notes, which is automated in my DAW. That's why you see me play two different notes with the same 7th string. Pretty cool feature! The programmed bass is from Loki Bass 2. Extra pitch shifted guitars were copy and pasted and inserted beneath the main rhythm just to give a little more heaviness to the sound. I saw that trick from the man who mixed the record for Spiritbox on YouTube.
The arpeggiated synth in the "chorus" is from a plugin called Odin2. Also, I used the "red" channel on the amp with lots of reverb for the background ambience (based heavily on a preset I found already in the plugin).
