As an artist, Melanie MacLaren creates a world for her listener that visual as well as musical. With imagistic lyrics and evocative melodies, she pays homage to the familiar, while carefully guiding the listener into new sonic territories. In her debut singles "Graveyard Shift" and "Melbourne," intricate finger style guitar and haunting synthesizers weave together to join the threads of past and present folk music.
Growing up in New York and moving to Nashville in 2020 MacLaren's music is not so much rooted in a place and time as it is suspended, caught between worlds— dreamlike and hyper-realistic, timeless and contemporary.
Melanie has everything you could want from a folk singer, natural aptitude for emotional, nuanced delivery, wistful guitar playing and the essential ability to write about life as if life were simply writing itself. This combined with her ethereal, modern production, hypnotic 1970's inspired harmonies, distorted folk instruments and deep love of traditional music, make her songs truly one of a kind.
She is currently finishing production of her debut EP which is set to be released in early 2022.
