In this video we investigate a canal breach in Manchester. The canal breach is on the Rochdale canal and is in the Miles Platting area of Manchester. Initially water was lost from the canal network around Ancoats and New Islington. But since then the breach has been isolated and the New Islington Marina has been re filled. We heard reports from the Manchester Evening news that the canal had collapsed into an old culvert. So being interested in the Lost waterways of Manchester we decided to investigate. This area around Butler street in Miles Platting is the meeting point of two of Manchester's lost waterways. The Newton brook and Shooters brook. So we had to look into the history of Manchester to try and work out the cause of this canal breach.
