Description
“Love Letter from the Afterlife” is the final poem Andrea Gibson wrote for me. It’s more than a poem. It’s a lullaby. A weighted blanket. A tether that lets me feel the tug of everything I thought I’d lost.
Andrea had the foresight to know I would need this poem one day. Need their voice telling me, “I am more here than I ever was before.” And they must have known how many other people would need it too. That someone grieving might hear their own beloved in those words, whispering from the other side.
I feel so lucky that unseen footage from our Oscar-nominated documentary, “Come See Me in the Good Light”, is still finding its way into my hands. That there are still hours of memories of Andrea coming back to life. “Dying is the opposite of leaving,” Andrea says in this poem. And somehow, they keep making it true.
If you or someone you know needs this message, please consider sharing this poem. And thank you for helping keep Andrea’s voice alive, alive, alive.
