King County prosecutor warns legislative fix needed to curb costly copper wire thefts

KOMO News Guide 4 days ago

Description

The city of Seattle is still working on a plan to repair the West Seattle Bridge after a thief stripped copper wire from the lights and bridge panels late last month.

Seattle City Light officials described the damage as "extensive" and estimated repairs from the wire theft will cost at least $100,000. In the meantime, the bridge's streetlights remain out.

Gregory Wayne Galitzeck, 47, is charged with malicious mischief, theft, and criminal impersonation after Seattle police said he falsely claimed to work for Seattle City Light.

Body camera video of police arresting the suspect has been viewed millions of times online.
