Description
Is your self-image causing your midlife crisis? Y'all, I had to sit with that question this week — and the answer stopped me cold. If you're in a midlife crisis and can't figure out why nothing feels like you, this one's for you.
I've never had my own image. Not once in 48 years. For most of my life I just went along with whatever was cool at the time or whatever tickled my fancy that season. I never stopped to ask what I actually liked — and I'm realizing that's not a side note to my identity crisis . It's part of what caused it.
This week I sat down with my husband and we started doing the work. Turns out green is my favorite color right now. Green, bronze and gray. It may change again in a couple of years, and that's fine, but I want to know what it is today so I can be consistent with it.Because that's the real problem, isn't it? I've been buying into chaos and wasting money on pieces that never fit the woman I'm trying to become. Too many choices, too many things to pick from, and zero consistency. So I'm stripping it back — fewer brands, only the ones that add value, nothing that fights who I am now.
If you're a woman in midlife and you've picked up everyone else's image along the way, here's the test I used to see it. Because this is a midlife crisis in women conversation nobody's really having — we talk about the career, the kids, the hormones. We don't talk about the fact that we don't know our own colors.
And this is the room where it happens. My beauty room, my Auntea Activities room. Part studio, part cool-down space. Tonight I'm organizing every product I own and being honest about what stays. This is reinventing yourself after 40 — the part that starts in your closet.
Sound off in the comments below, keep it cute, keep it classy, and let's talk about it! Does your self-image match the woman you're becoming? What are YOUR colors — or have you been borrowing somebody else's like I was?
