Description
Everyone's running to Ulta and JCPenney for their hair right now — and I'm not breaking up with my stylist to follow them. Here's why I think this trend is setting you up for the next problem instead of solving the one you had.
I've had the same stylist for years. I'm a regular. I'm loyal. And I'm not loyal out of habit — I'm loyal because I get great service at a price I can actually afford, I know exactly what I'm walking into, and there's a real sense of community in that salon that no chain counter is going to hand you in a 45-minute appointment. That relationship is the thing people are about to trade away for a coupon.
Here's the part I said in the video and I'll say again: I'm not defending stylists who overcharge, double-book, or treat clients badly. If that was your experience, you had every right to leave. But this is a pattern, y'all. Every few months the internet gets fed up with something, everybody jumps to the new solution, and six months later the new solution IS the new problem. Ulta is cute right now. It's also a trend. And a lot of the people hopping on it never had a stylist problem in the first place — it's content, it's rage bait, and it's exhausting.
So before you cancel on somebody who's been doing right by you: ask whether you're leaving a problem or just following a crowd.
