I'm 48 & The Only One My Age In The Room | Youtube Creator Events Truth

Auntea On Social Guide 15 days ago

Description

I'm 48, and there's never anybody my age in the room. Y'all, I got the confirmation email for the YouTube Black Creator Collective Brunch — and instead of excitement, fear set in.

Here's what I'm actually scared of, and I don't think I'm the only one. I've been in this creator community for over a decade, and I can count on one hand the times I wasn't the oldest person there. Younger creators are brilliant, but let's be honest — they're often very ageist at times, and unless you've got the numbers, auntie doesn't get included. That's not a pity party, that's a pattern, and ageism doesn't stop just because the room is full of people who make content for a living.

So this video is me thinking out loud. The last-minute flight. The dress code I still don't have an answer for. The weight I've gained that makes getting dressed feel like a whole strategy instead of a five-minute decision. The years since my accident that took my footing and never quite handed it back. This is what women over 40 deal with — we get invited, and then we spend the whole time wondering if we actually belong.

And then I landed somewhere better. These younger creators aren't my competition — they're my nieces and nephews. I'm in my auntie era, and I'm walking in as the auntie who pours into them, not the one waiting to be picked.

If you're in midlife and you've ever been the only one your age in the room, I made this one for you. Because this is the conversation about midlife crisis in women that nobody's having — the part where it isn't about the career or the kids, it's about feeling invisible in spaces you earned your way into. This is reinventing yourself after 40 in real time, on camera, unedited.

So tell me: what should I wear? And more importantly — how do you walk into a room where you're the oldest one there? Sound off in the comments below, keep it cute, keep it classy, and let's talk about it!

Love y'all! Common sense ain't common, y'all!

I got an invite to the YouTube Black Creator Brunch, but honestly? I'm debating if I'm even going to show up.

I applied for the event last Friday, and seeing the email pop up today stirred up a whole lot of mixed feelings. Being a part of content creator life is supposed to be the dream, but lately, I have been questioning if these events are still for me. It is a strange place to be when you start feeling like you might be too old for the room you worked so hard to get into.

I am sharing the real, unpolished thoughts behind this invitation because I know I am not the only one navigating these feelings. Whether you are dealing with creator burnout or just trying to decide if you are still in your Auntie Era, this is a conversation about knowing when to step out and when to stay home. We are talking about the reality of the YouTube Black Creator Brunch and why I am having such a hard time saying yes.
