Description
In the study, they put people in a room with either radishes or chocolate chip cookies.
The people in the room with radishes didn’t have to fight much temptation because most people don’t really want radishes. But the people in the room with cookies had to sit there and not eat them.
Then both groups were given a difficult test afterward.
The cookie group gave up faster. Not because they were weaker people, but because they had already used more self-control before the test even started.
That is what people miss about discipline. You are not always starting from the same place. Bad sleep, stress, parenting, work, marriage, temptation, and frustration all pull from the same tank.
But most people wait for perfect conditions to start.
Perfect sleep.
Perfect schedule.
Perfect motivation.
Perfect season of life.
But that almost never comes.
Discipline is not built when everything is lined up perfectly. It is built when the circumstances are imperfect and you do the thing anyway.
