POV: How to make a Brandy Crusta.
One of the true classics. The Brandy Crusta was created in New Orleans by Joseph Santini in the 1850s and became one of the early templates that later influenced the Sidecar and the Margarita. Bright citrus, Cognac depth, a touch of maraschino, and that signature sugared rim.
Recipe:
2 oz brandy or Cognac
1/2 oz curaçao
1/4 oz maraschino liqueur
1 oz fresh lemon juice
1 barspoon simple syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Shake with ice and fine strain into a sugar-rimmed glass. Garnish with a long lemon peel inside the glass.
What makes it special:
— rich but still lifted by fresh citrus
— elegant balance of fruit, spice, and dryness
— a historical cocktail that still tastes modern
POV format works perfectly here because you can clearly see the rim, the shake, the strain, and the final garnish placement — all the small details that actually matter when making classics correctly.
