Description
Just because you have foot pain does NOT mean you have plantar fasciitis.
Plantar fasciitis, more accurately known as plantar fasciopathy, can be misdiagnosed.
There can be multiple causes to foot pain.
In case be nerve related, whether its referred from the spine itself or locally, specifically Baxter’s nerve entrapment. The irritation of the nerve can radiate pain into the foot.
Another is heel heel pad irritation. The treament approach to this may actually differ compared to addressing plantar fasciopathy.
Another thing to consider is how the pain changes as you move. With plantar fasciopathy, it may tend to feel better as you move/warm up.
However, if it gets worse as you run, something I may consider is a calcaneal (heel) bone stress injury.
Also, I have seen people mix up plantar fasciopathy for achilles tendinopathy. While plantar fasciopathy is typically around the bottom side of the heel, achilles tendinopathy is around the back side of the heel where it connects to the heel bone itself.
These things matter as each of these situations can be addressed differently.
Remember, this is for educational purposes and should not replace medical advice. If you are dealing with persistent running related injuries, I recommend seeing a healthcare professional.
