Hopper Video: Single Packer Amrep Collecting Trash

Description

Amrep’s first generation of automated trucks utilized a much more traditional packing system than their modern dual blade setup, with one individual blade with a follower and two telescopic cylinders in an X arrangement. This design was replaced by the dual blade setup around 1997 or so as a result of a fatal accident involving a school bus. There are very few single packers still in operation today; this is one of two currently remaining in the Harrison fleet both of which are on newer chassis. There is no build plate on this body unfortunately so its true age is unknown, but I’d estimate it to be around 1992 or 1993 given the narrower hopper than usual (notice the much smaller gap on the rear side of the arm where the hoses pass between the arm and the front of the body).
