Eines meiner langjährigen Traumziele war Haut-Koenigsbourg im schönen Elsass. Ich bin schon öfters daran vorbeigefahren, denn diese imposante Burg ist gut von der Autobahn aus zu erkennen, aber erst jetzt hat es mit einem Besuch geklappt. Zeit wurde es!
Was Burgen angeht bin ich tatsächlich ziemlich verwöhnt, denn die schöne Harburg bei mir in der Nähe legt die Latte schon ziemlich hoch. Trotz der Tatsache, dass Haut-Koenigsbourg nicht vollständig original und die Innenausstattung eher eine romantische Verklärung des Mittelalters ist, bin ich schwer beeindruckt! Was für eine tolle Sehenswürdigkeit an einem wunderschönen Ort! Die Aussicht ist geradezu spektakulär.
Trotz eines gehörigen Besucheransturms kann man relativ entspannt durch die Burg wandeln, was ich als sehr angenehm empfunden habe. Außerdem kann man kostenfrei parken und bezahlt genau einmal Eintritt, um alles sehen zu können - also genau das Gegenteil der Burg Karlstein bei Prag (über die ich nach meinem Besuch im Jahr 2024 folgerichtig auch kein Video gemacht habe, weil man da nur einen Bruchteil der Burg überhaupt gesehen hätte).
Kurzum: Ein Besuch von Haut-Koenigsbourg lohnt sich in jeder Hinsicht und ich für meinen Teil hätte gar nichts dagegen dort ein zweites Mal vorbeizuschauen.

One of my old dream-destinations has been Haut-Koenigsbourg in the beautiful Alsace region. I drove past it a few times before, because this impressive castle can be seen from the highway, but only now i had the chance to actually visit it. It was about time!
When it comes to castles i am rather spoiled, because near my home there is the wonderful Harburg castle, which sets my bar already very high. Despite the fact that Haut-Koenigsbourg is not completely original and the interior decoration is rather a romanticisation of the Middle Ages i was very impressed! What a lovely sight on a beautiful spot! The view from the castle is truly spectacular.
Despite the stampede of visitors one can actually walk through the castle easily, which was a very pleasant experience for me. In addition to that there is free parking and you pay only once to see it all - so it is the exact opposite of Karlštejn castle near Prague (about which i made no video after my visit in 2024, because i could have shown only a small fraction of the castle).
In short: Visiting Haut-Koenigsbourg is worthwhile in every way and personally i would not mind it at all to visit the place a second time.

The Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg (German: Hohkönigsburg), sometimes also Haut-Kœnigsbourg, is a medieval castle located in the commune of Orschwiller in the Bas-Rhin département of Alsace, France. Located in the Vosges mountains just west of Sélestat, situated in a strategic area on a rocky spur overlooking the Upper Rhine Plain, it was used by successive powers from the Middle Ages until the Thirty Years' War when it was abandoned. From 1900 to 1908 it was rebuilt at the behest of the German kaiser Wilhelm II. Today it is a major tourist site, attracting more than 500,000 visitors a year.
