Cliff Chen spent over six months raising and training his favourite racing pigeon, No. 10. Months after it failed to return from a race, he’s still waiting for it to come home.
In Taiwan, up to a million pigeons are trained each year for the fiercely competitive sport of pigeon racing. Released far out at sea, they must find their way home. But not all make it back.
For Cliff, No. 10 was especially precious. Its colouring reminded him of the pigeon that first sparked his fascination with the sport when he was eight. No. 10 made it home from the first race but did not return from the second.
“I just hope it stays alive and well. When the opportunity comes one day, when it gets the chance to fly in the open, it might just fly back,” Cliff said.
