Description
Before becoming a Guru, one must first become a Shishya—and there are absolutely no shortcuts on this path. Learn who a true Shishya is according to the Gita, what qualities define a true Guru beyond just scriptural knowledge, and the clear distinction between a Guru and a Katha Vachak.
In this profound discourse, Param Pujya Gurudev Anandmurti Gurumaa makes one thing clear: before becoming a Guru, one must first become a Shishya—and there are no shortcuts. Through two memorable stories, she illustrates that ego-driven aspiration has no place on this path. She quotes Arjuna's words to Krishna as the definition of true discipleship—Vairagya, love for God, and sincere sadhana under the Guru's guidance until Atmabodha is attained.
Gurudev then defines a true Guru as Shrotriya and Brahmanishtha—one who knows the scriptures and has lived that knowledge, and who comes only to give, never to take. She draws a respectful but clear distinction between a Katha Vachak and a Sage, stating that the title of Guru belongs only to one in whose inner life the Yamuna of Bhakti and the Ganga of Gyana flow together.
