Description

Katha is auspicious—but if it does not remove Shok, Lobha, and Agyana from the mind, it is entertainment, not Satsang. This talk covers the profound difference between Katha and Satsang, why the Gyana sections of the Shrimad Bhagavat Purana rarely receive prominence, what God truly means when He says He resides in the heart as Ashabdam Asparsham (beyond all form and sense), and why Adi Shankaracharya says the removal of ignorance through the Guru alone is the only real Saubhagya in human life.

In this profound discourse, Param Pujya Gurudev Anandmurti Gurumaa clarifies that Katha and Satsang are not the same. She explains that while the Shrimad Bhagavat Purana is an unparalleled text of Sankhya Yoga, Gyana Yoga, and Bhakti Yoga, in practice, the stories of Krishna's childhood and the dialogues of Shri Ram with Lakshmana, Shabari, and the rishis are rarely given prominence. Gurudev notes that Katha is auspicious; however, if it does not remove the Shok, Lobha, and Agyana of the mind, it becomes mere entertainment—while true Gyana breaks the Vishaya Vasanas of the mind.
Gurudev explains that when God says He resides in Arjuna's heart, He does not mean His flute-playing form. Rather, He is Ashabdam Asparsham—present not as sound, touch, or sight, but as pure existence, as Sat-Chit-Ananda. Quoting Adi Shankaracharya, she states that true Saubhagya is when the calamity of ignorance is removed. This liberation comes only through the Guru, whose Paaduka symbolizes the Paramatma Tattva that carries the weight of the entire universe.
