Description

A General Electric branded, Atlinks manufactured, 2.4 GHz corded/cordless telephone model 27958GE1-A.

This is a very nostalgic phone, my grandparents had one of these back in the early-mid 2000s. There was always an issue where the cordless handset would lose the connection with the base while charging and make some hissing noises, so it was never used in regular service. The corded base with the answering machine was used for many years in my grandmother's room, just without the cordless handset.

I remember using this system back in the early 2010s when I first started to really get into cordless phones, and while it was usable with an extended battery pack to avoid the charging issues, it still had other issues such as the cordless handset not audibly ringing. I used that system until I eventually bought another one, which worked properly.

At some point along the way, I thought that system failed. I tried getting a few more over the years, and they all seemed to be troublesome. A few days ago, one appeared at the thrift store, and since I had been wanting to get another one that hopefully would work, I got it. It took a few re-boots to get it to work normally, but it eventually came up with worked properly. Confusingly enough, one of the other sets I have now also works, I'm not sure if I just recalled incorrectly or if it started working after sitting.

When working, it's a pretty good phone. I really enjoy the way it talks, it had a tremendous amount of side tone, even on the cordless handset. The unit is very basic with few functions or customization, but the basic operation is very respectable. Good audio quality with very good range considering the frequency and technology.
