Hopefully it was a fun demo and helped you to conceptualize fly casting. When your timing is good - the line has unrolled and come to rest. Thus, when you start the casting stroke, the full weight of the line resists the change (on object at rest wants to stay at rest), allowing you to immediately load the rod. BUT, now the rod is trying to come out of its bend, and dump its potential energy. By understanding the role of our "Application of Power" , namely keeping the rod bent during the stoke length. We can energize the line so as to significantly increase our performance. When we do it smoothing and in an increasingly acceleratory manor, the rods tip stays good and flat - NO TAILING LOOPS. Match the Arc to the Bend (start and stop points relative to rod taper) and BOOM! You have a true fly cast.
