Well, I have to say that Geoff Stevenson & Jan Pierson (owners of The Green Trees Ranch Airstrip OG28) put on quite a spectacular show for their First Annual Fly-In right smack dab in the middle of the Willamette Valley! The secluded private airstrip is located on the top of Rogers Mountain about 3 miles southeast of Scio, Oregon.
It started off with a group of 9 different Van's RV aircraft christening the event by performing multiple formation fly-overs complete with smoke! The sound of 9 engines running simultaneously at cruise RPMs overhead was pretty amazing to say the least!
There was TONS of food and all of it was delicious. There was smoked salmon, pulled pork, brisket, deviled eggs, several potato salads, macaroni dishes, with pies and cakes and brownies for dessert.
There was soda and juice as well as cold beer and wine for the non-pilots to lighten the festivities, which included a live band playing all kinds of old school rock and roll, dancing, and overnight camping for anyone who chose to spend the night.
Thank you to the owners, the volunteers, and the pilots of so many magnificent aircraft for making this an event to remember! Please let's have another one next year!
