Description
Taylor's presenting solo again, with two patients whose ear canals are packed with wax: one from Katie, one from Taylor, and both a bilateral case.
Katie's first patient has very dark, thick, dried-out wax that looks like it has been in place for a while. Taylor explains why wax like this can end up so awkward, and how a good amount of oil made the difference. After a lot of gentle wiggling, the plug that had been sitting right in front of the eardrum slips out. Katie's second ear has a completely different consistency: a thin layer of dry skin with wax stuck to its surface, which is sensitive and slow to peel away.
Taylor's patient has a hard block of wax with a thick layer of dead skin around the outside. Rolling it from the top gives a surface to grip, and it pops out. The other ear has a sheen under the wax that suggests more oil use, and a big plug gets trapped right at the entrance. Taylor explains the S-shaped bend in the ear canal, why dry skin always takes longest, and when the fine end of the suction tube is used. The final piece is close to an inch of wax and skin.
