Description
Does clothing packaging matter? Acronym and Kojima Productions' collaborative jackets use the same understated approach to other Acronym pieces, in contrast with both typical high-end gamer merch and luxury fashion. Why adopt this 'as little as possible' philosophy?
In part, it positions their clothing *not* as a luxury exclusive item but a tool intended for long-term use. It also communicates that the energy and cost of the product is going entirely into the clothing itself, and this is consistent with Acronym's lack of paid advertising. There's also something to be said of minimising waste and use of resources - where packaging will ultimately be thrown away, anything beyond protecting the product is arguably unnecessary.
That said, unboxing experiences can be an important part of our initial perceptions of a product. For a world as rich as Death Stranding, we can imagine the myriad forms thematically-appropriate packaging could take.
So... do you care about the box?
