Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav says, "The Opposition parties met the Speaker and demanded a discussion, but he outrightly rejected it. It is important to understand the government's intentions here; their entire system is mired in corruption and appears to be ailing in many respects. As for the youngsters who came to protest wanted to highlight the systemic failure, since the government itself was unwilling to take cognisance of the issue. They came to urge the government to introduce educational reforms and address the deaths of the 20 students who committed suicide following the NEET paper leak. They also felt that the Education Minister, being responsible, should resign; instead of demanding the Minister's resignation—as the students had—the authorities rained lathis on them and tore their clothes. I believe the government's actions effectively shattered the hopes and aspirations of these young people. I feel a strong message has gone out regarding how many young people desire change. I want to tell the students that change can only come through voting. In the times ahead, you should support the parties that are determined to oust the BJP."
Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav strongly criticised the Union government over the police action during the youth-led CJP protest march in New Delhi. Speaking about the controversy, she said opposition leaders had met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and requested a parliamentary discussion on the students’ concerns, but claimed that their demand was rejected. This reflects Yadav’s account of the meeting and the government’s intentions.
Dimple Yadav alleged that failures and corruption within the education and examination system had compelled students to take to the streets. She said the young protesters wanted the government to acknowledge alleged examination irregularities, undertake education reforms and protect the future of students preparing for competitive examinations.
The Samajwadi Party MP also referred to claims concerning the deaths of students following the NEET paper-leak controversy. Protest leaders and opposition politicians have linked more than 20 student deaths to distress arising from examination failures, although the exact circumstances and causal links require independent case-by-case verification.
Yadav said the protesters were demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on grounds of ministerial accountability. She alleged that instead of addressing their demands, the authorities used lathis against the demonstrators and subjected them to degrading treatment. News reports and videos documented baton use, tear gas, injuries and detentions during the attempted Parliament march, while Delhi Police alleged that some protesters breached barricades and attacked security personnel.
