Description
Darline Graham has been sworn in as South Carolina's interim U.S. senator.
She steps into the seat held for more than two decades by her late brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham, following his sudden death.
Gov. Henry McMaster announced Monday that he selected Darline Graham to temporarily represent the state until the end of her brother's term.
During the announcement, McMaster said he first discussed the possibility with Darline Graham "in the wee hours of Sunday morning" after Graham's death. Graham Nordone described the appointment as a great honor.
McMaster's appointment comes a day after President Donald Trump recommended that the governor select Darline Graham to fill the vacancy on Truth Social.
Sen. Graham, 71, died overnight Saturday after what his staff described as a brief and sudden illness, leading to Darline Graham's appointment.
