This year, that dream came true. Twice.
Because as Nintendo finally announced an official Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2 โ another version of Hyrule quietly came to an end. After 10 years of solo development, CryZENx officially stopped his legendary Unreal Engine fan remake. One was born. The other was laid to rest.
This is a tribute to the one that almost was.

CryZENx (real name Giuseppe Macula) spent 10 years rebuilding The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine โ starting with a rough Gerudo Valley test in UE4 in 2015, and ending with a fully playable Jabu-Jabu's Belly dungeon complete with Barinade boss fight in UE 5.7.4 in early 2026.
The project was always legally precarious โ every asset, melody and character belongs to Nintendo, a company with one of the most aggressive copyright enforcement records in the industry. But it survived for a decade, built real gameplay, recreated over a dozen areas, and inspired a community of hundreds of thousands.
Then Nintendo announced their own official Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2. And CryZENx stepped back.
He didn't get the credit. He didn't get the paycheck. He didn't even get to finish. But for 10 years, he gave a whole community something Nintendo wouldn't: a chance to walk through Hyrule, reborn.
