Description
❌ Many learners think they’re pronouncing the /eɪ/ sound correctly… but often they aren’t.
Instead of a full diphthong /eɪ/, students make the first part too long and don’t finish with that clear /ɪ/ movement at the end. In some northern accents this can be fine, but in Modern RP we need the full diphthong:
👉 /eɪ/ = start with /e/ + glide to /ɪ/
Here are some real mistakes my students made this week:
• 🇪🇸 day /deɪ/ (Spanish speaker)
• 🇨🇳 name /neɪm/ (Mandarin speaker)
• 🇷🇺 wait /weɪt/ (Russian speaker)
• 🇯🇵 game /ɡeɪm/ (Japanese speaker)
• 🇵🇱 late /leɪt/ (Polish speaker)
