Since our last update (28 July 2025) on Casper the White Lion and his unexpected alliance with the two young Ngotso South/S90 males and their mother (watch it here: https://youtu.be/lOqiWXmaApc), this unlikely trio has continued to spend time together about 14 kilometres north of Satara Rest Camp in Kruger National Park. For Casper, this companionship offers both protection and the chance to share in their kills, which is crucial for his survival.
In this video, we encountered the young males and their mother resting beside the road 14 km north of Satara. At one point, we heard a lion roaring in the distance—likely Casper—contact calling his new companions. The young males responded and began moving in the direction of the calls.
This sighting took place late in the afternoon of 10 August 2025. Early the following morning, we found Casper alone, sporting a deep gash next to his right eye—probably the result of a playful but forceful swipe from one of his younger friends during the night. This raises the question: will this unusual friendship, or perhaps coalition, stand the test of time? We hope so, as it may be ageing Casper’s best chance for survival.
For context, the two young Ngotso South/S90 males are likely younger brothers or cousins of the older Ngotso South/S90 males, who—together with the blonde Nsemani male—took control of much of the Satara Pride by defeating Casper and his Shishangaan brothers at the end of 2024.

GAME DRIVE ETIQUETTE - RULES (SANParks):
– When you come across a sighting, slowly pull over on the side of the road closest to the animal, but keep a safe distance and turn OFF your engine
– If there are animals in the road, immediately stop at least 20 m from them
– The lane furthest from the sighting should NEVER be blocked, so that others can pass if they want to
– Don’t linger longer than a few minutes at a sighting, so that others can view it too
– Never go off the designated roads
– Never climb out of your vehicle during a drive, or hang out of your car windows or sunroof
– Don’t hoot or blare loud music
– Avoid driving into vegetation, as this could damage the environment or kill small animals
– During night drives, never shine a spotlight directly in animals’ eyes
– Never make noise to get animals to move, stand up or otherwise react for pictures
– Respect the rangers, and always comply with their requests or instructions
