In this little adventure I head up to the hills on part of the Beacons Way then find a nice spot to camp.
In part a warm up for adventures to come, I test whether I can manage with just a kettle instead of a full cookset, is a Polish Army ration pack tasty grub and is it worth lugging a chair on a hike.

The kettle is a 'M kettle' made in England by the same people who make the Ghillie storm kettle.
The m kettle is a copy of the 'Back Country Boiler' from the USA, both are versions of the 'Sirram' kettle which used to made in England and was popular for car picnic sets in the postwar period (Sirram is 'Marris' backwards who were the company behind the picnic sets). The Kelly Kettle design also comes from the Sirram. In turn the Sirram was a version of the 'Thermette' produced in New Zealand as far back as the 1920's. The designer gave up the copyright so the New Zealand government could mass produce them for their army during the second world war.
The chair is a cheap knockoff of the original Helinox, cost about £20 as opposed to £100 for the real thing but weighs twice as much. I have since bought an actual Helinox so stay tuned for a test of that in a future video.
