Angry to Be Alive

Description

Joel Del Rosario joined the Marines for a girl.

She sent him a Dear John letter while he was deployed to Iraq.

Then he got hit by an IED.

In that moment, he thought he was dead.

And he felt peace.

When he came to, he was not relieved.

He was angry that he survived.

That reaction disgusted him.

So he made a choice right there.

Nobody forced him to enlist.

She asked. He agreed.

That was his word. His decision.

He stopped blaming the circumstance and took full ownership of where he stood.

He could have coasted out.

Done the bare minimum.

Instead, he decided to be the best Marine he could be.

Twenty-one years of service followed that single decision on the ground in Iraq.
