In this video we visit a disused railway tunnel. The railway tunnel is situated in Diggle Saddleworth. It is called the Butterhouse tunnel on the now abandoned Micklehurst loop railway line. This video is inspired by Charles Dickens ghost story The Signalman. We visit the old railway tunnel and look at its history through old maps and newspaper archives. We learn of a railway death and a railway crash. The Micklehurst loop railway line , opened in 1885 the golden age of railways.
