status update:
Here are the business casualties from COVID-19:
- The remaining few Sears stores in Northern California permanently shut down except the ones at Sunvalley Mall in Concord and Stockton, which reduced their business hours to 11am-6pm.
- All remaining Kmarts in all of California, part of the same company as Sears, permanently closed except for the ones in Freedom (Watsonville), Grass Valley, South Lake Tahoe, and McKinleyville (Eureka), which reduced their hours from 10am-6pm.
- The very last Hometown Buffets in Northern California, located in Fairfield and Stockton, finally shut down.
- The Sweet Tomatoes/Souplantation company and all their stores permanently shut down.
- Most Sizzler restaurants permanently shut down. The only remaining Sizzlers in the Sacramento area are in Citrus Heights, Florin, and Natomas.
- All remaining Quiznos in the Sacramento area finally shut down. The only remaining two are in Citrus Heights and Roseville.
RadioShack and ToysRUs already totally went out of business before COVID-19, so they don't count.
Also, the only remaining Chinese buffets in the Sacramento area seem to be the Golden Koi Buffet in Roseville, No. 1 Buffet in Florin, and Sakura Grill & Buffet in Arden-Arcade.
This greatly contrasts with the stereotypical, "modern", "21st Century" early 2000s to mid 2010s, in which I remember every town had their own American and Chinese buffets.
Once the mid-late 2020s hits, when the Green Revolution really hits, and EVs start becoming mainstream, I will consider the "modern, 21st Century" 2000s with huge gas-guzzling SUVs, disposable fast fashion, and hideous ripped jeans a "historical" era.
