The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office recovered 148 sexual assault kits that sat unprocessed at the Prichard Police Department.
Investigators found 247 sexual assault kits in evidence storage. Only 99 were sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. The remaining 148 were never submitted.
The discovery came while the Mobile County Sheriff's Office was inventorying police evidence after taking over law enforcement operations in Prichard. The remaining 148 kits were turned over to the FBI.
Since June 16, 2026, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office has been handling law enforcement operations in Prichard after a Prichard officer was arrested for corruption.
