Trump uses speech to attack CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, compares to Dylan Mulvaney

President Donald Trump once again criticized CNN Chief White House Correspondent Kaitlan Collins in his remarks at the White House Correspondents Association dinner in Washington on Friday, July 24, 2026.

Collins, an Alabama native, was congratulated by Trump for winning the 2026 WHCA award for broadcast for her coverage of Trump’s 2025 meeting with the president of Ukraine, but then called it “fake.”

Trump said she shouldn’t have won the award, and then continued to say that she never smiles. He also mentioned she signed “a major new sponsorship,” but that it was Dylan Mulvaney on Budweiser cans, not her.

Trump’s comparison of Collins to Mulvaney, a transgender influencer who endorsed Budweiser in 2023, garnered defense of Collins and other reporters Trump mentioned.

“We stand by our journalists and the integrity and fair-mindedness with which the CNN team reports the news,” CNN CEO Mark Thompson said in a statement on X.
