Behringer promised a standalone, open-source DJ system for $300 to $400 (see our Anima video here on YouTube).
Now they've posted a teaser on Facebook: "Imagine. A record out of the box." A controller plugged into a laptop, a pun on Rekordbox, and a clear dig at AlphaTheta's DDJ-FLX4.
So what would a Behringer FLX4-style controller cost? $99? Less? And if it came plug and play with a properly sorted version of open-source DJ software like Mixxx, what would that do to the beginner market?
In this video I look at what Behringer is hinting at, three big caveats, and why more competition in a DJ industry that's practically a duopoly is good news for all of us.
Would you buy a $99 FLX4 rival running open-source software? Or is Behringer just trolling at thias point? Let me know in the comments.
