Description
Naboisho Conservancy is a 210-square-kilometer community-owned property established in 2010 by over 600 Maasai landowners. It operates on a model of coexistence, utilizing structured grazing management to ensure livestock stay healthy without depleting the grass. This regulated approach supports a thriving wildlife population, including 100 to 150 lions, representing 17% of the Mara region's big cats. The conservancy provides financial stability to the local community through land leases, job creation, and educational bursaries.
"Naboisho" is a Maasai word that means "coming together". Before the conservancy was introduced, life in this region was difficult; grazing was uncontrolled, cattle roamed freely, and access to medical care required a 20-kilometer walk.
Today, by coming together for wildlife conservation, the Maasai have built a system where wild animals and domestic livestock coexist peacefully. The establishment of our camps has brought employmentβfrom security officers to receptionistsβensuring that our families are financially stable, our children receive an education from form one through college, and our ancestral land is protected.
When you visit Naboisho, you are guaranteed to witness the beauty of our big cats, but more importantly, you become an active participant in a conservation model owned and driven by our community. Experience this coexistence firsthand by staying at our camps:
