Description

What is the impact of reforestation in the Maasai Mara? In the Maasai Mara, reforestation is restoring life to barren lands that were once lush forests. By planting a variety of indigenous tree and bush species, the community is successfully attracting rich birdlife and encouraging local rainfall. Led by the Maasai community and Basecamp Explorer, this initiative aims to plant 500,000 trees over five years to restore the ecosystem and provide a natural way for guests to offset their carbon footprint.

Discover the Mara through the eyes of its protectors. Fifty years ago, these lands were thick with forest. Today, we are working with local Maasai landowners and our guests to bring that life back. From our seedling nurseries producing 70,000 trees a year to the saplings planted by visiting leaders like Barack Obama, every tree is a step toward a resilient ecosystem.
