In a surprise public memo, Google announced that over a million of their Android TV boxes have been compromised intentionally by their makers and have been operating as a way to distribute malware as a coordinate botnet.
It’s been going on for multiple years, but Google’s officially parting ways and implementing legal action with Videostrong, the company behind the specifically compromised TV devices.
Videostrong is the name behind a bunch of different brands of these devices, so you’ll have to investigate if yours is specifically affected, but Mecool is reported to be one of the big brands that has the deviant devices.
