In this video I share a dynamic axe splitting technique that’s useful in the backcountry...but only if you know how to keep it safe.

I demonstrate how to split wood without a chopping block or stump, using half-length and three-quarter-length axes.

This method can be especially handy on snow, rocky ground, or when you want to avoid damaging your axe. But it comes with risks, so proper technique and positioning are critical.
