A 2028 general strike? UAW President Shawn Fain tells Status Coup’s Jordan Chariton to “mark your calendar”—and workers say the organizing is already happening.
While GM pours billions into stock buybacks, workers are preparing for a fight over who gets the wealth THEY create. Asked about a potential May 2028 general strike, Fain tells Jordan: “We got big plans for 2028.”
UAW members describe serious discussions on the shop floor about what it will take to strike together. The union has called on other unions to align their contract expirations ahead of May Day 2028, building the power to take on the billionaire class.
Fain also explains why neither political party gets a blank check from the UAW: fight for working people or lose their support.
Status Coup covered the 2023 Stand Up Strike from the picket lines in Michigan and Ohio. We’re following what workers are building next.
