Donald Trump built his campaign around the promise that he would keep America out of new overseas wars. Now, with the U.S. pulled into the war with Iran, he is pretending that promise never happened.
In a new Meet the Press interview, Trump said, “I didn’t guarantee no war,” then tried to rebrand a three-month conflict as somehow not an “endless war.”
But the record is not complicated. He sold voters peace. He mocked the old wars. He promised strength without another foreign conflict.
Now there is a war, and suddenly the promise has disappeared.
Turns out Trump was not the anti-war outsider he sold to voters. He was just another politician willing to say anything to get elected.
