This Could Have Been Catastrophic... Cirrus SR22 Magneto Failure

Description

Cirrus SR22 Magneto Failure during the engine run-up ended this trip before it even began.

I was preparing to depart Morristown, New Jersey, for Boca Raton when my Cirrus SR22 magneto failure showed up during the run-up. The right magneto was almost completely dead, making the flight unsafe.

Instead of taking off, I shut the airplane down and started looking for an aircraft mechanic. Unfortunately, it was Sunday, icing weather was moving into the area, and I quickly found myself stranded away from home.

This video shows a real-world magneto failure, aircraft maintenance decisions, winter flying, IFR operations, and why every pilot should take a failed run-up seriously.

- How do you afford to own an airplane? Airplane ownership can be expensive but when done right, in the US, it becomes a wonderful tax deduction that can allow you to fly for business almost for free. Get trained well, get a bank loan and buy yourself an airplane for your business. Then depreciate the entire aircraft cost which will reduce your income by the value of the depreciation which will save you on taxes. Put the aircraft on an LLC and save on sales tax. Talk to an aviation tax consultant and they will guide you.
