In this lesson, I’ll show you a simple seven-note lick that gives you a beautiful, authentic Django Reinhardt sound over major chords.
The lick is built from a major 7 arpeggio — but the real trick is where it starts.
Instead of starting on the root, we start on the major 7th.
That one change gives the line more character, momentum, and a much more Django-like feel.
In this video lesson, I’ll show you:
• the seven-note lick note by note
• the C major 7 arpeggio it comes from
• why starting on the 7th sounds so good
• the beautiful chromatic move from the 7th to the 6th
• how to use the idea in C, G, A, D, and other keys
• how playing the arpeggio with two fingers can open up the neck
• why you do not need to play fast to sound like Gypsy Jazz
• the lush C6/9 chord I use at the end of the lick
The free PDF includes the TAB for the lick, the major 7 arpeggio, and the chord, so you can follow the lesson slowly and make sure you do not miss a thing.
