Growing your own food is an important part of practical emergency preparedness—but planting the garden is only half the battle. You also have to protect it.
In this video, I’m sharing why every prepper should consider growing at least some of their own food, whether that means a full-size backyard garden, raised beds, containers, or even a community garden plot. Growing food gives you valuable skills, fresh produce during the growing season, and the opportunity to preserve food for the winter.
I’m also giving you a tour of my garden and showing how well everything is growing, including pole beans, squash, corn, and more. But the biggest change this year is the new six-foot garden perimeter fence my friend Patrick built using half-inch hardware cloth.
We have had an ongoing problem with woodchucks and other garden pests helping themselves to the harvest, so we needed a serious solution. I’ll show you how the fence was designed, how it surrounds the entire garden, and why we chose hardware cloth instead of ordinary garden fencing.
A productive garden can strengthen your food security, reduce grocery dependence, and help you become more self-reliant—but only if you can keep the critters from eating everything first.
