Description

Are you storing cooking oil the wrong way? In this video, I cover common cooking oil storage mistakes, which fats last longer, and what makes the most sense in a prepper pantry.Fats and oils are often overlooked in a prepper pantry, but they matter more than many people realize. Cooking oil, olive oil, coconut oil, lard, bacon grease, ghee, shortening, butter, peanut butter, canned meats, and canned fish can all play a role in food storage — but they do not all store the same way.

In this video, I’m looking at the best fats for a prepper pantry, what stores longest, what goes rancid, and how to store oils and fats properly so they don’t ruin your meals. We’ll talk about why fats go bad, why buying huge containers of oil may not always be the best idea, which oils should be bought in smaller amounts, and whether fats belong on the shelf, in the refrigerator, or in the freezer.

I’ll also share why fats are important in an emergency pantry. Fats add calories, help with cooking, improve flavor, and can turn basic pantry foods like rice, beans, pasta, potatoes, canned meat, and oatmeal into actual meals.

We’ll also look at hidden sources of fat many of us already have in our pantry, such as peanut butter, nuts, seeds, canned fish packed in oil, canned meats, coconut milk, and other calorie-dense foods. These do not replace cooking oil, but they can help make pantry meals more filling and satisfying.
