Umbrella Revisted, the modifier every photographer starts with.

Think an umbrella is just a beginner light shaper? Think again. In this video, I’ll show you how to use an umbrella with flash to create dramatic portraits, beautiful catchlights, and controlled light fall-off that rivals much more expensive modifiers.

Most photographers start with an umbrella. In this episode of “How Did I Shoot This?”, I’ll show you how to use the Rogue Rogue 38" Soft White Umbrella with Diffuser as a powerful light shaper for high-impact portraits. Learn how changing the angle of your umbrella and the position of your flash can completely transform your lighting. We’ll cover shooting from above, side lighting techniques, creating beautiful vignettes on your backdrop, and how to avoid dark raccoon eyes while still getting stunning catchlights. Whether you use a Rogue umbrella, a shoot-through umbrella, or a small softbox, these techniques will help you get more creative control over your light.
