Description
You will NEVER be allowed to set foot on this island.. because it is full of highly venomous snakes! It's called Ilha da Queimada Grande and it's off the coast of Brazil. It's only 43 ha in area, but for each hectare there is between 60-80 Golden Lancehead snakes (Bothrops insularis). Although the restriction to the island is for public safety, it's also to protect the snakes. Golden Lanceheads are endemic to the island, meaning they are found nowhere else in the world. They are also critically endangered, and face threats such as habitat loss, being illegally poached for the black market, and, due to their small population size, are at risk of being wiped out by natural disasters.
