The Loneliness of Retro Gaming and Why We Still Miss It

People say retro gaming was better because it had heart compared to modern video games, but that's not necessarily true. Retro gaming was better because it was often a solitary experience, and for a lot of this, that loneliness felt safer than the world outside our bedroom door. Today we're not talking about pixels or cartridges.

We're talking about why we still chase a feeling that was never about the video games at all. If  you grew up with these video games, you didn't just play them, you disappeared into them, A dark room, a CRT, television, glowing. Everyone else is fast asleep or perhaps you can hear them faintly going on about their day in another room.

No party chat, no notifications, no pressure to perform just you and a world that didn't ask you to explain yourself.
