In January of 1976 a chimpanzee named Oliver made headlines. Nobody had seen anything quite like him. His bizarre appearance and strange humanlike behavior was unsettling. In fact, anybody that came in contact with him walked away convinced that he was more than just a chimpanzee. Here was an ape who appeared to be a cross between a human and a chimpanzee - a humanzee. But could Oliver reallyy be the result of an encounter between a human and chimp?? Was he the first tangible piece of evidence for a hybrid? Scientists would spend the next 30 years trying to find out.
