The best free health tracker

Everyone is tracking their sleep, their HRV and their steps.

But one of the most useful health trackers is something most people completely ignore… what’s happening in the toilet.

Before spending £400 on another wearable, start with the basics your body is already giving you.

Your poo can tell you a lot about what’s happening in your gut. The Bristol Stool Chart is one of the simplest ways to understand digestion, and ideally you’re aiming for a type 3 or 4. If things are more like 1–2, it can be a sign you need more fibre or hydration. Higher numbers can suggest your gut is irritated or a little out of balance.

And your pee is one of the easiest ways to check hydration. You’re aiming for a pale straw colour. Darker yellow usually means you need more fluids. Most people need around 1.5–2 litres of water a day, and more if you’re exercising or sweating.

Not the most glamorous health trackers… but surprisingly powerful.

Before buying another gadget, try tracking these for a week and see what you learn about your body.
