Description

The origins of many Black people in Cyprus are often unknown. Although most of them assume that their ancestors came from Sudan, they are sometimes in the dark about the exact story.
In addition, the skin color of many Afro-Cypriots has, over the centuries, become increasingly lighter as a result of mixed relationships. Ikenna recognizes this — his skin is also lighter than that of his father, who married a white woman. And his own children are again less Black, because he too is in a relationship with a white woman. This raises questions for him: what exactly is a Black identity? How do you deal with losing your color? And how do you make sure you still preserve your Black identity?

* In the episode, Ikenna is shown reading the book:
“Africa in the Mediterranean Sea – On Afro-Turks and Black Greeks: The Last Remnants” van Victoria Kabeya: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/347398329_African_In_The_Mediterranean_Sea_On_Afro-Turks_and_Black_Greeks_The_Last_Remnants
