Description
The Ravens are 4-4, Lamar Jackson is sidelined, and Baltimore is heading into a Thursday night showdown with one of the hottest teams in the AFC.
On this week's Purple Power Hour, Kirk McEwen and Marianne Sierk are joined by former Ravens Todd Heap and Dennis Pitta to break down the quarterback crisis facing Baltimore and preview the massive matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
With Lamar Jackson potentially out for the season and Tyler Huntley also sidelined, the Ravens are turning to undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano to make his first NFL start on a short week. Todd and Dennis discuss just how difficult that situation is, especially against a Jacksonville defense that ranks among the league's best.
The guys break down the Ravens' keys to victory, including protecting the young quarterback, establishing the running game against Jacksonville's No. 1-ranked run defense, and finding creative ways to get Zay Flowers involved after he was held without a catch against Buffalo. They also discuss using Justice Hill and Derrick Henry in the passing game and getting the ball to Baltimore's playmakers in space.
The conversation also features a great trip down memory lane as Dennis Pitta tells the story of his rookie year alongside Todd Heap. Dennis explains what it was like entering the Ravens' tight end room with an established star like Heap ahead of him, struggling to find playing time, and even getting thrown into the fullback position—where his very first practice rep ended with a massive collision and a concussion.
And, of course, we've got our predictions. With the Ravens facing a 5-2 Jacksonville team led by Trevor Lawrence, everyone puts their score predictions on the line—including one very optimistic pick from Todd Heap and some decidedly less optimistic predictions from Dennis, Kirk and Marianne.
The Purple Power Hour features exclusive Ravens analysis every Monday and Friday with two of the most accomplished tight ends in franchise history.
